Laser skin resurfacing is one of the main reasons why celebrities always seem to have such beautiful skin. Benefits include reducing the appearance of wrinkles and acne scars, smaller pores and oil glands, wart removal, and less visible age spots (hyperpigmentation). The procedure takes less than an hour to complete. As soon as you complete your therapy at Winter Park Plastic Surgery, you’re free to return home for recovery.

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a cosmetic procedure designed to improve the quality of your skin. Dr. Greenberg and his team of expert providers use a device that emits short bursts of light on your dermis (the outermost layer of skin), removing the top layer of cells – those most damaged by acne, UV, and hyperpigmentation. Once removed, your skin has the opportunity to heal and grow back refreshed and rejuvenated. Scars, dark patches, and even fine lines and wrinkles will appear reduced.

There are two types of lasers you might receive here at Winter Park Plastic Surgery. So-called ablative lasers that remove skin layers are excellent for targeting superficial concerns, such as warts and facial creases. By contrast, non-ablative lasers don’t remove any skin. Instead, they use pulsed light to remedy acne-related skin concerns, spider veins, and reddening of the skin caused by rosacea.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Benefits

Laser skin resurfacing offers a host of benefits. These include:

  • Improvements in the quality of your skin. Both ablative and non-ablative lasers target multiple skin issues simultaneously, radically enhancing its appearance as healing occurs in the days and weeks that follow.
  • Rapid treatment. Laser skin resurfacing takes between 45 minutes and an hour to complete. During the treatment, you will receive a topical anesthetic. Most patients experience little to no discomfort.
  • Long-lasting results. How long your results last depends on the type of laser used and the number of treatments you receive. Often, ablative laser resurfacing can deal with your concerns in a single session, with the effects lasting for many years.

Am I a Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is suitable for a wide range of skin concerns, including uneven skin tone, sagging skin, enlarged pores, warts, age spots, and scars (including those caused by acne). Dr. Scott Greenberg and his team will consult with you about whether you are a suitable candidate for this therapy. Generally, those with lighter skin tones stand to benefit the most because they are less likely to experience hyperpigmentation. However, please note that there are now many lasers for patients with darker skin on the market.

You may also be a good candidate for specific laser skin treatments if you experience regular acne breakouts. Modern laser techniques target both the bacteria that cause spots and the inflammation that leads to redness. Skin appears less red and blotchy, and any recessed scars may become less visible.
