The recent enthusiasm for surgical and non-surgical weight loss has increased patients’ desires to improve their appearance afterward. Many lose a lot of weight but still feel and look fat because of excess skin as well as back rolls and a loose, saggy abdomen. The gain and loss of weight are circumferential, and a surgical procedure designed for correction of this problem needs to be circumferential.
What is a Belt Lipectomy?
A belt lipectomy is a surgical procedure that’s designed to remove excess skin and abdomen fat after significant weight loss. The ultimate goal of the procedure is to help patients achieve a flatter stomach, so they can show off all of their hard work!
Candidates for Belt Lipectomy
At the initial consultation for a belt lipectomy or body lift, your goals and expectations about the surgery will be discussed in detail. An individual decision as to the most appropriate technique(s) to be used will be made and the advantages of each technique will be discussed. All candidates should be healthy nonsmokers with realistic expectations for this procedure.
How Does It Work?
When it involves a circumferential incision around the waist and back, we refer to this procedure as a belt lipectomy. When it is performed along with abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), it is a lower body lift. The procedure is usually performed in our in-office accredited surgical facility with a one-night stay.
Results can be seen right away, although you won’t be able to see final results until about six months after the procedure.
Specific wound care instructions will be given including the use of ice for 24-48 hours to control swelling. Swelling and minor bruising are expected and begin to subside about 48 hours after the procedure.
