Botox® is one of the most common non-surgical treatments, but how often should you get it? While it varies from patient to patient, Dr. Scott Greenberg recommends that patients receive treatment roughly every twelve to sixteen weeks to maintain the appearance of their complexion.

About Botox®

Botox® is a natural substance derived from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. The compound has the wonderful property of relaxing muscle cells by preventing neurons from transmitting chemical signals to them. This feature lets you avoid a range of muscle-induced wrinkles, including frown lines on your forehead and wrinkles around the eyes, nose, mouth, and chin.

Botox® is a type of natural local muscle inactivator. It is useful because it prevents the tiny muscles on the face from contracting and wrinkling the skin above. Both fine lines and wrinkles appear reduced

The interesting thing about Botox® is that it doesn’t involve doing anything directly to the skin. The treatment relies entirely on changing the underlying structure of the face. In this sense, it is different from hyaluronic acid or peptide injections that attempt to activate the skin’s latent rejuvenation potential.

How Long Does Botox® Last?

How long Botox® lasts depends considerably on the type of treatment you get and your metabolism. Patients typically experience results that last between three and four months.

Botox® doesn’t last forever because the body eventually processes and eliminates the botulism toxin compound. Over time, nerve cells slowly regain their ability to communicate with muscles on the face, causing the old, problematic activations to recur.

Typical Botox® Schedule

How frequently you require Botox® treatment varies from patient to patient. That’s because genetic factors, the areas you wish to target, and your metabolism all play a role in determining how long the compound remains in your body.

On average, adults usually should schedule Botox® every three to four months. Younger adults who want to prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles in the future may wish to receive preventative injections once every twelve weeks.

Benefits of Botox®

Winter Plastic Surgery Botox® offers the following benefits:

  • Immediate results: Botox® is a natural compound that immediately inactivates wrinkle-causing muscles in the face. Patients leave the clinic looking refreshed and revitalized.
  • No downtime: While Botox® inactivates the facial muscles, it doesn’t involve any downtime. After treatment, you are free to go about your day as normal, go to work, see friends, and do anything else you normally want to do.
  • Delay the formation of wrinkles: Wrinkles tend to form on the face in response to how the skin folds when underlying muscles contract. For that reason, many younger people choose Botox® to arrest this process, allowing them to keep more youthful-looking skin for longer.
  • Non-surgical: With Botox®, there’s no reason to go under the knife. You get many of the benefits of surgery with a simple set of injections.
