Restylane

Restylane, like Juvéderm, is a hyaluronic acid-based injectable gel that smoothes your facial wrinkles and creases by adding volume. It is recommended for treating nasolabial folds and other wrinkles around the mouth, cheek lifting and to augment the size of the upper and lower lips.  Restylane includes a family of products including Restylane, Silk, Lyft, and others.

How Does Restylane Work?

The basic material of the Restylane family of products, hyaluronic acid, works naturally in your body as a skin filler. It also lubricates your joints and tissues. Unfortunately, naturally occurring hyaluronic acid diminishes with age, leaving the skin susceptible to wrinkles.

As a natural compound, Restylane is gradually absorbed by the body, but as it is absorbed, the remaining material binds water molecules, allowing the injectable to maintain its volume for about 6-18 months depending on the product used and area treated. Temporary fillers have the advantage of allowing periodic touch-ups, revisions, and re-treatments at any time.

Am I a Good Candidate for Restylane?

You’re a good candidate for Restylane if you have moderate wrinkles around the cheeks, mouth, and nose. Restylane can also be used to augment the size of the lips, which means candidates with thinning lips or mouth wrinkles may be an excellent candidate for this treatment.

You should be in good health and have realistic expectations for this treatment.

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?

As with other injectable fillers, Restylane injections take about 15 minutes. A topical numbing cream will be applied to the injection site; after the injection, Dr. Greenberg will massage the area to help reduce swelling and bruising.

What Results Will I See?*

Results should be visible within one to two weeks; depending on the Restylane product being used, the results should last anywhere from six months to a year and a half.

Is There Any Downtime?

During the recovery time, you may experience some minor swelling, pain, and redness. This should subside within a day or two after your treatment. For at least 24 hours after treatment, you should try to avoid strenuous activity, sun exposure, and excessive heat.
