Upneeq®

Drooping upper eyelids can keep you from seeing your bright, beautiful eyes. They can make you look tired or older than you are. Our practice is now pleased to offer Upneeq®.  Upneeq® is the only FDA-approved prescription eyedrop for acquired ptosis (low-lying upper eyelids) that lifts your upper eyelids to open your eyesIt actually makes your eyes look brighter, whiter, rounder, and more open with just 1 drop.

How Does Upneeq® Work?

Low-lying upper eyelids, also called ptosis, affect people of all ages, although the muscle that supports the eyelids often weakens with age.

Acquired ptosis (low-lying upper eyelids) is a common condition that

  • Affects adults of all ages but occurs more often with increased age
  • Usually occurs when the muscles in the eyelid stretch and weaken, causing the lid to droop
  • May be caused by other issues, such as cataract surgery, contact lens wear, heavy upper eyelid excess skin, or an underlying medical condition.

While you can develop ptosis for a variety of reasons, now you have a non-invasive way to open up your eyes. Upneeq® is a daily eye drop that causes muscles to contract and lift the upper eyelids. It produces a subtle but noticeable difference that might make others wonder why you look so well-rested and alert.

Am I a Good Candidate for Upneeq®?

If you have acquired ptosis, you may be a good candidate for Upneeq®. “Acquired” means that it has developed due to age or other factors. Upneeq® is an FDA-approved treatment for this condition. It uses an active ingredient with a long history of safe, effective medical uses.

Good candidates for Upneeq® have reasonable expectations about their results. You may not be a good candidate if you have health issues with your eyes. If your drooping eyelids are caused by excess skin instead of loosened muscles, Dr. Greenberg may recommend different options.

How Do I Use Upneeq®?

Upneeq® comes in single-use, sterile applications that contain enough product for one drop in each eye. You use Upneeq® once a day and may choose to use it immediately before work or a social event so that your results are most visible. Applying Upneeq® is simple and can become part of your daily routine.

  • Wash your hands before opening the vial and applying drops
  • Wait at least 15 minutes before putting in contact lenses
  • If your provider approves the use of other eye drops with Upneeq®, wait 15 minutes to apply them

If you, like many people, have trouble getting eye drops to land in your eyes, ask your Winter Park provider for advice. Upneeq® eye drops are not uncomfortable and easy to administer.

What Results Will I See With Upneeq®?

Upneeq® results are subtle but enough to be noticeable. Most people see a lift of 1-2mm. An eyelid lift, for comparison, produces about 5mm of lift. You will usually see the results of Upneeq® within 5 minutes. They can last for eight hours or more. Upneeq® is not approved for use more than once a day. You will notice that your eyes look wider and more visible and that you look brighter and more alert.

Are There Any Side Effects With Upneeq®?

Most side effects of Upneeq® are mild, and in many cases, they are not bothersome enough for people to stop using Upneeq®. They include redness, irritation, dry eyes, and headaches. These effects will usually disappear within a day or two of stopping treatment.
