Kybella

Kybella injection is approved for the injection of moderate to severe convexity or fullness associated with submental (neck) fat in adults. If you have a double chin or excessive fat around the jawline, Kybella can help break up those fat cells. Over time, the fat cells are naturally removed by the body, resulting in a slimmer, more contoured facial profile.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is a non-human, non-animal formulation of deoxycholic acid. Kybella is a cytolytic agent, that is, it dissolves fat by removing fat cells. Once removed, those cells can no longer store or accumulate fat. This process creates an inflammatory reaction which also affects the skin. It causes the skin to contract, closing the space where the dissolved fat existed. This gives the contour improvement seen with this treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for Kybella?

You’re a good candidate for Kybella treatments if you have excessive fat underneath the chin, around the jawline, or even on the neck. You should already follow a healthy diet and exercise regimen, as Kybella cannot prevent the formation of new fat cells. You should be in good health and have realistic expectations for this treatment.

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?

The treatment is a 15-20 minute, in-office session. Multiple injections are given in the area where the fat is stored. Most patients require 2-3 treatment sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart to see the desired results.

What Results Will I See?*

As many as 4-6 treatments may be necessary for some patients and are based on a number of factors. The final results are usually seen approximately 6 weeks after the last treatment. Once the aesthetic goal is reached, repeat treatment is usually not necessary.

Is There Any Downtime?

There’s no downtime associated with the procedure, although clients will notice a slight burning sensation at the injection site. Some patients may also see slight swelling and bruising, which usually fades within the first few days. You should avoid working out for the first 24 hours after the procedure, as excessive heat can interfere with the treatment.
