If you have lost weight, been pregnant, or just gotten older, your breasts may not be quite as perky as they once were. Sagging breasts can affect your confidence and make you uncomfortable in your favorite clothes. A breast lift restores your breasts to their proper shape and position, giving you back your youthful contours.

What Does a Breast Lift Do?

If you have droopy breasts, a breast lift or mastopexy is the most effective way to restore them. This procedure lifts the breasts by removing excess skin. Dr. Greenberg may use a range of techniques to accomplish this, including an incision along the edge of the areola, vertically under the breast, or horizontally in the breast crease. Each breast lift is a unique procedure tailored to your needs.

Recovery Tips After a Breast Lift

You can expect to be sore after your breast lift, and you will also have some swelling and bruising. A few preparation tips can make the first few days easier, and within a few days, you can expect to feel much better.

Prepare Meals

Your body needs extra nutrients to help you heal after any procedure, but you will not usually feel like cooking healthy meals for the first day or two. Prepare a few days of meals before surgery and freeze them so you can stay well-nourished without much effort. As an additional tip, stock up on your favorite healthy beverages to stay hydrated.

Choose Clothing

You may not be allowed to lift your arms over your head after surgery, so we recommend having some comfortable shirts that zip or button up the front. Make sure they are easy to put on and take off, and avoid anything restrictive in the chest. Regardless of what you wear, keep your surgical bra on as instructed.

Enlist Some Help

Since you will not be able to lift much weight after your mastopexy, you should have someone available to assist you for the first day or two if you need anything. Help is especially important if you have small children that you need to pick up.

Schedule Enough Time Off

Dr. Greenberg will discuss how long you should expect to be off work after your breast lift. People with low-activity jobs may be able to return after a week, but the details of your procedure will affect your recovery time.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Dr. Greenberg may recommend mastopexy for anyone bothered by drooping breasts. Candidates should be in good health and have reasonable expectations. If you have lost volume as well as experienced sagging, you may also be a good candidate for breast augmentation. You should not have a breast lift if you have certain medical conditions.
