Brow Lift

The eyes are the focal point of facial expression. They are also one of the first areas that may show signs of early aging. Drooping eyebrows, sagging or hooding of the skin of the outer upper eyelids or horizontal forehead wrinkles or frown lines on the bridge of the nose can give the face a tired, sad or stern expression.

Signs of early aging can have a pronounced effect on the well-being of a vibrant, active person. A brow lift procedure can improve many of these conditions and restore a more rested, alert, youthful appearance.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a surgical procedure that’s performed in order to “lift” the appearance of drooping, sagging eyebrows. This surgery is an excellent option for patients who are experiencing moderate to severe forehead sagging, and constantly look like they’re frowning or deep in thought. The ultimate goal of a brow lift is to restore a more youthful appearance while removing excess sagging skin from the brow line.

Candidates for Brow Lift

At the initial consultation, your goals and expectations about the surgery will be discussed and an explanation of the different effects of blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) versus brow lift will be reviewed. We will discuss the advantages of each technique and make a decision as to the most appropriate technique to be used. All candidates should be healthy nonsmokers with realistic expectations for this procedure.

How Does It Work?

The procedure is usually performed in our accredited in-office surgery facility on an outpatient basis. A brow lift may be performed at the same time as other facial rejuvenation procedures such as a facelift or skin resurfacing depending upon the individual patient.

The procedure is usually performed via the “minimal incision technique” which involves placing several strategic, small incisions in the hair-bearing scalp and upper eyelids. The muscles and skin are altered or removed to smooth the forehead and soften frown lines and the eyebrows are elevated to a more appropriate and pleasing position.

Results*

You should begin seeing your results almost immediately after surgery, although final results may take a few weeks to appear, as this is when the majority of swelling and bruising have gone down. Your results may subtly change over the course of a few months as minor swelling changes and disappears.

Recovery*

You will remain in the recovery area for approximately 1 to 2 hours after surgery. An overnight stay may be recommended if additional procedures are performed. The eyes and eyelids become swollen for several days and can be discolored for up to 2 weeks. In some patients, swelling and discoloration may last longer. You may shower the day after surgery and return to work in approximately 7 to 10 days.
