Kybella® is the only FDA approved for moderate to severe fullness in adults’ submental or neck fat. It is a non-surgical treatment to rid the body of accumulated fat for a more contoured neckline. The active ingredient in Kybella® naturally breaks down fat cells to reveal a slimmer neck and removes double chins.

What is Kybella®?

Kybella® is a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, the same molecule made in the human body to break down fat cells. The formula is produced entirely in sterile facilities and breaks down the fat tissue without causing harm to the skin or other bodily tissue. Kybella® requires no invasive procedures and no downtime.

When Do I See Results of Kybella®?

Kybella® is a non-surgical double chin removal procedure. Each treatment at Winter Park Plastic Surgery lasts about 15 to 20 minutes. It is not a one-time treatment. The process requires 2 to 3 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart for desired results. In some cases, 4 to 6 appointments are needed.

Results are not immediate. You should begin seeing significant improvement approximately 3 to 4 months following the first injection. The final results appear about six weeks following the last treatment. The process is gradual and results in a natural-looking contoured neck.

Swelling may last for up to one month following the injection. The process of Kybella® creates an inflammatory reaction as the fat cells dissolve. This is completely normal. Contact the Winter Park Plastic Surgery office if you have any concerns or questions.

Are There Any Risks to Kybella®?

Kybella® is FDA approved and has minimal side effects. Unlike surgical procedures, Kybella®’s double chin removal requires no downtime. Side effects, however, are a natural part of any medical procedure. Side effects for Kybella include:

  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Slight bruising
  • Mild pain
  • Itching

Am I a Good Candidate for Kybella®?

Ideal candidates for Kybella® struggle with a double chin and would like to get rid of fat in the submental area. Candidates need to have realistic expectations and should be prepared to wait a few months for results. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or anyone planning on having surgery on the lower face may not be good candidates for double chin removal injections.
