If you have breast augmentation, you will have several choices to make with your surgeon’s assistance. The breast implant you choose will define your new breast shape, size, and projection. You have more options than ever to get the look and feel you want to achieve.

What are Breast Implants?

With a few exceptions, breast augmentation procedures use implants to enhance the size and appearance of the natural breasts. Breast implants come in many sizes, several materials, and various shapes. Dr. Greenberg will discuss what you want your breasts to look like after surgery and help you choose the implant that will help you achieve those results.

Which Type of Breast Implant is Right For Me?

You will have several choices as you consider your implant possibilities. Dr. Greenberg will guide you and assist you in understanding the variety of options available to you.

Silicone vs. Saline

Implants may be filled with silicone or saline. Silicone may come in a gel form or a firmer, shape-holding “gummy bear” form. Today’s silicone implants are very safe, and millions of women enjoy their more natural look and feel. A saline implant contains a sterile saltwater solution and has less variability in shape, but some people prefer saline because they have concerns about the safety of silicone.

Implant Shape

You can choose the final shape of your breasts with a round or teardrop-shaped implant. If you want fullness in the upper part of your breast, a round implant will give you volume enhancement and noticeable upper fullness. A teardrop shape will place more volume in the lower part of the breast, providing a more natural appearance.

Implant Profile

Implants come in high, moderate, and low profiles. Low-profile implants have a broad base and do not project far from the chest, making them most suitable for those with wide chests who do not want a lot of added projection. Moderate-profile implants have a moderate width at the base and a medium projection, making them a good choice for those who wish for noticeable but not an unnatural-looking enhancement. High-profile implants give a fuller, rounder, more dramatic result.

How Long Do Breast Implants Last?

Breast implants can last a decade or more. Some women will have a breast implant revision after this time to replace an old implant. Others may have the procedure to upgrade to a newer, better type of implant or to correct a problem.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Implants?

Good candidates for breast augmentation have reasonable expectations and maintain overall good health. Dr. Greenberg can help you find the right implant so that you will love your results and new look.
