Traditional liposuction is great. But as patients’ needs developed and so did the market. Let’s take a look at two options available from Dr. Scott Greenberg at our clinic.
Traditional liposuction involves inserting a device called a cannula (a type of hollow tube) under the skin and then using the power of suction to remove fat cells. Dr. Greenberg first applies anesthetic, then inserts the cannula in an inconspicuous location to draw out the fat. After the procedure, the fat volume of a particular region appears decreased.
VASER liposuction operates in much the same way. Dr. Greenberg inserts a cannula into the region you want to target and draws out the fat.
The crucial difference is the use of ultrasound. In VASER liposuction – which stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance – sound waves gently break up fat cells under the skin, making them easier to remove. Emulsifying fat cells under the skin allows Dr. Greenberg to contour the shape of your body more easily than with traditional liposuction.
VASER differs from other procedures, such as SmartLipo and SlimLipo because it does not kill fat cells. This feature means that Dr. Greenberg can reuse the fat cells he extracts and for contouring other parts of the body.
Remove excess fat from problem areas: Areas of “excess adiposity” that are out of proportion to the rest of your body can sometimes develop (especially if you have lost a lot of weight). For instance, even though you are slim, you might have large deposits of fat on your hips, butt, or thighs. Liposuction is a wonderful technique because it allows you to target these areas specifically, helping you reshape your figure in the way you want, without pushing yourself to lose even more weight.
Boost body confidence: Related to this is the effect that liposuction has on your body confidence. Many patients report feeling happier with their appearance in the months and years that follow the procedure.
Re-plump other areas of the body: With VASER liposuction, you can harvest fat from your body and then use it as a filler or contouring agent elsewhere.
Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?
Liposuction is a fat reduction procedure, not a weight-loss treatment. Thus, the best candidates are people close to their ideal weight who need to remove stubborn fat deposits that don’t respond to traditional diet and exercise.
