Fine lines and wrinkles can make you appear older than you actually are and can be hard to treat or prevent with topical creams alone. If you desire smoother, more youthful-looking skin and wish to treat and prevent expression lines, Botox® may be the treatment for you.

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® is an FDA-approved injectable commonly used to treat fine lines and wrinkles. When an experienced practitioner injects Botox® into the treatment area, it will block the nerves from sending signals to the muscles.

This process allows the muscles in the treatment area to relax, which treats and prevents expression lines and wrinkles, making your skin appear smoother and more youthful.

How Many Units of Botox® Do I Need?

Dr, Greenberg’s team will evaluate your face to determine which areas benefit best from Botox®. The number of units of Botox® you require will vary depending on how deep your fine lines or wrinkles are, the treatment area, and how your body responds to Botox®.

For example, the forehead may take 15 to 30 units of Botox® while the crow’s feet may take 6 to 10 units per side. It is also important to note that men tend to require more Botox® than women.

How Long Does Botox® Treatment Take?

At Winter Park Plastic Surgery, treatment with Botox® typically only takes 30 minutes and does not require any anesthesia. There is no downtime with Botox® treatment, but you will likely experience minor swelling and tenderness in the treatment area. After Botox®, you should avoid rubbing the treatment area and bending over or lying down for a few hours after treatment.

What Not to Do After Botox®

To maintain the best-looking results with Botox®, you should avoid any rubbing or touching of the face, including other cosmetic treatments such as facials, facial massages, exfoliating scrubs, and dermal fillers.

Avoid sun exposure and heated activities such as hot showers, saunas, hot tubs, and tanning beds, as this may encourage bruising. Avoid resting on the treatment area and wait at least four hours after treatment to sleep.

Am I a Candidate for Botox®?

Most individuals who wish to correct fine lines and wrinkles to achieve smoother and more youthful-looking skin make good candidates for Botox®.

Candidates should be in good health and have realistic expectations of what Botox® can do for them. Individuals may not be a good candidate for Botox® if they are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neuromuscular disorders.
