If you have large breasts, you may have experienced some or all of the accompanying problems, including back pain and trouble doing things you enjoy. Breast reduction gives you shapely, proportionate breasts that match your figure. This procedure can free you from your large breasts’ physical and emotional stresses.

What is Breast Reduction?

If your large breasts bother you, Dr. Greenberg may recommend breast reduction. Also known as reduction mammoplasty, breast reduction decreases your breast size. This life-changing procedure can dramatically improve your ability to choose the clothes and activities you want, reduce back and shoulder pain, and make you feel more confident about your proportions.

How is Breast Reduction Done?

Each breast reduction is different since no two sets of breasts are the same. The procedure takes place under general anesthesia, and we may recommend an overnight stay afterward. Dr. Greenberg performs breast reduction using incisions around the areolas and under the breasts as needed. He will remove excess skin, fat, and tissue before resizing and repositioning the areolas.

The details of a reduction mammaplasty procedure depend on the size of your breasts and the amount of reduction desired. Incisions may go around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, or horizontally along this crease, depending on your needs. These incisions also allow him to move the areolas so they are properly located on your breasts.

What is Recovery Like After Breast Reduction?

You can expect some swelling, soreness, and bruising immediately after your procedure. These effects will improve significantly during the first week and continue to fade afterward. You will have a surgical garment to wear that supports and protects your breasts. Most people take ten days to two weeks off from work. You can resume light activities after about two weeks. Dr. Greenberg will give you a timeline for returning to more strenuous activities. Residual swelling can take several months to fade completely.

What Results Will I See With Breast Reduction?

Most people experience several benefits after breast reduction. You may immediately notice less weight on your chest, giving you relief from back and shoulder pain. As you heal, you will notice that clothes fit better and have a wider variety of options. You will also notice that you can engage in physical activities that your breasts used to hold you back from. You may also find that you no longer have to deal with irritated skin under your breasts.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Reduction?

Most healthy women with large breasts are good candidates for reduction mammaplasty. This procedure provides tremendous benefits, making it one of the most satisfying, life-changing aesthetic surgeries. Ideal candidates are in good health and bothered by large breasts that make them uncomfortable. Only a consultation can determine for sure whether you are a good candidate.
