What is Kybella®?
Kybella® is an FDA-approved injectable to reduce submental fat (fat underneath the chin). The active ingredient in Kybella®, deoxycholic acid, is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring acid your digestive system uses to break down fat. Once the fat cells break down, they are unable to form again, reducing the stubborn fat beneath the chin.
How Many Kybella® Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Depending on your specific needs, you may need 2-4 treatments to reach your goal. Some patients may need six sessions to see their ideal results.
Sessions typically last 15 minutes with a couple of injections in the submental fat. Each treatment session should be approximately a month apart to allow time for the Kybella® to break down fat cells and for your body to filter out the damaged ones.
What is Recovery from Kybella® Treatments Like?
Kybella®, unlike liposuctions, requires no downtime. Liposuctions result in soreness, swelling, and bruising that lasts several weeks. Kybella® tends to result in some swelling as the fat cells break down, but it begins subsiding after a few days. Most people consider the swelling a fair trade for a non-surgical, long-lasting submental fat treatment.
Most patients can return to their usual routines immediately after their appointments. Winter Park Plastic Surgery and Laser Center suggests returning to work and your activities as you feel comfortable doing so.
Results from Kybella® Treatments
Most people see the final results of their Kybella® treatments four months after their last session. The results, however, are worth the wait. You will see a slender, defined jawline and neck, replacing the double chin that exercise and dieting couldn’t touch.
You are born with a limited number of fat cells within your body. The fat cells expand and contract based on how much fatty acid accumulates within the cell. The Kybella® treatments remove some of the fat cells from under the chin. Since fat cells cannot grow back after treatments, the results should be permanent.
Should I Get Kybella® Treatments?
If you are over 18 years old and in good health, Kybella® is an excellent treatment to get rid of your double chin. Ideal candidates have realistic expectations and are able to wait for the final results.
