Breast augmentation is commonly known as a “boob job.” It involves the insertion of breast implants to enhance the size, shape, and symmetry of a woman’s breasts. Many women choose to undergo breast augmentation for various reasons. These include correcting breast asymmetry or enhancing small breasts. Choosing the right type of breast implant is the key to achieving a natural-looking breast augmentation.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation uses breast implants to boost the size and shape of the breasts. Dr. Greenberg typically performs it under general anesthesia, and the incision can happen in one of three locations: under the breast, around the nipple, or in the armpit. Depending on your desired outcome, the implant is placed behind or in front of the chest muscle.

Best Breast Implants for Natural-Looking Breast Augmentation

Several types of breast implants are available, each with advantages and disadvantages. The most common types of breast implants are saline and silicone implants. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water, and silicone implants are filled with silicone gel.

Gummy bear implants offer a newer type of silicone implant denser and firmer than traditional silicone implants. They are built to maintain their shape even if the implant shell is damaged. Gummy bear implants are often touted as the most natural-looking breast implant option due to their teardrop shape and firmness.

When choosing the best type of breast implant for a natural-looking result, Dr. Greenberg will consider several factors, such as your body type, breast shape, and desired outcome. Each implant type has advantages making them more appropriate for different situations.

What is Recovery Like After Breast Augmentation?

Recovery after breast augmentation varies depending on the procedure used and your individual healing process. Generally, you can expect to experience some pain, swelling, and bruising after the procedure. Most people will need to take about a week off work. Avoid strenuous activities for three weeks after the surgery.

Dr. Greenberg will provide specific post-operative instructions for you, including how to care for the incision site, what medications to take, and when to schedule follow-up appointments. Follow these instructions carefully to ensure a smooth recovery and minimize the risk of complications.

How Long Do Breast Implants Last?

Breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime and will eventually need to be replaced. The lifespan of breast implants can vary depending on several factors, such as the type of implant used, your lifestyle, and the surgical technique.

On average, saline implants last between 10 and 15 years. Silicone implants can last up to 20 years or more. Gummy bear implants are a newer type of implant, and their long-term durability is still being studied.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Good candidates for breast augmentation are in good overall health and have realistic expectations. They should also have fully developed breasts, be at a stable weight, and have no underlying medical conditions that could affect healing or increase the risk of complications. During a consultation with Dr. Greenberg, he can evaluate your needs and determine if breast augmentation is suitable.
