Laser Hair Removal

Lasers have been used for many years in surgery and recently have found a niche for the removal of unwanted hair. The ease of use, adaptability to most skin types, low incidence of complications, patients’ desires to avoid more painful alternatives and high patient satisfaction have made laser hair removal a viable option for both men and women. Dr. Greenberg is pleased to offer the latest technology for the removal of unwanted hair.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

LightSheer is a state-of-the-art diode laser specific for laser hair removal. The laser works by targeting the darker hair follicles; the heat energy quickly kills the follicle, which falls out a few weeks after treatment. The follicle does grow back, but it does so at a slower rate. Over time, follicular regrowth is greatly reduced, resulting in smoother, hair-free skin.

It may be used for most skin types and hair colors. It has a high success rate for both laser hair removal and hair reduction. This device is FDA-approved for this purpose.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

You’re a good candidate for laser hair removal if you have excess hair on your arms, legs, back, armpits, or your face. Most skin tones and hair types can be accommodated with this treatment.

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?

A “test” spot may be done to determine the proper setting for your individual treatment.  Treatment can begin on the day of the consultation or within 1 week if a test spot is done. A typical procedure takes anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour to perform, depending on the spot being treated. Minimal downtime is experienced.

What Results Will I See?*

Our laser hair removal treatment has demonstrated approximately 70%-80% suppression of hair growth lasting 3-12 months after 3-5 treatments (hair growth suppression for greater than one year). Results depend on skin type, hair color, and location.

Is There Any Downtime?

There’s no downtime associated with this procedure, although you’ll likely experience slight redness and swelling for a few days. It’s important to wear sunscreen after your laser hair removal treatments, as your skin will be sensitive to sunlight.
