Laser Skin Resurfacing

Ever wonder how celebrities get the kind of skin that always looks perfect, even when they’re just running errands? The secret can be found in laser skin resurfacing, a non-surgical procedure that removes the damaged dermis to reveal the younger skin hiding underneath. Laser skin resurfacing is an excellent solution for people who want to minimize the appearance of wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, scarring, and other skin imperfections.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

Laser skin resurfacing works by delivering short bursts of light to the skin’s surface, which works to remove the top layer of the dermis (this is the layer that has the most damage from aging, the sun, and environmental pollutants). Removing these damaged skin cells helps the newer cells come to the surface, thus reducing aging symptoms, hyperpigmentation, and other signs of surface damage.

Am I a Good Candidate for the Laser Skin Resurfacing?

For those patients with more severe conditions such as deep wrinkles, severe acne scars, surgical scars, hypertrophic scars, epidermal nevi, actinic keratoses, and severely sun damaged or photoaged skin, laser skin resurfacing may be an option. The depth of the peel varies depending on your condition and desired result.

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?

The typical treatment takes about 45 minutes to an hour to perform, depending on the treatment area. Most patients experience little to no discomfort; however, it is normal to feel some heat or experience a tingling sensation.

What Results Will I See?*

Results should be visible after a consistent course of laser skin resurfacing treatments; you’ll see smoother, younger-looking skin. Results can last for up to a year or more, depending on your skincare regimen.

Is There Any Downtime?*

Your healing time will depend upon your actual treatment depth. You will experience erythema (redness) and swelling that may last several weeks and there may be a residual pink or red color that may take several months to resolve.

Healing time varies among individuals, but you should be prepared for approximately one week of downtime away from your normal activities. The amount of discomfort varies from patient to patient. Dr. Greenberg and his staff will discuss your post-laser treatment care options to properly manage any discomfort.
