Unlike other anti-aging treatments, microneedling uses your body’s natural healing properties to rejuvenate the skin. As you age, your collagen and elastin production decline, causing duller, more wrinkled skin. Microneedling provides powerful results with little to no downtime necessary.

What is RF Microneedling?

RF microneedling uses the power of microneedling and radiofrequency energy to create micro-damage to the skin. The micro-damage triggers the body’s natural healing responses, boosting collagen and elastin production. At Winter Park Plastic Surgery, our expert team uses the Genius™ RF system for our microneedling treatments.

Tips for Recovering After Microneedling

Microneedling does not require downtime; however, you may experience some redness and mild swelling for a few days. During this time, your skin will be more sensitive and absorb skincare products more readily. There are a few tips to consider to get the most out of your microneedling treatments.

Sun Protection

Dr. Scott Greenberg recommends avoiding direct sun exposure and wearing sunscreen consistently for two weeks, even if you do not spend time in the sun. Your skin will be more sensitive and prone to sun damage as it heals the micro-damage from the treatments.

Avoiding Infection

Since your skin absorbs elements more readily, we recommend avoiding situations that could risk infection. Dr. Scott Greenberg may prescribe a topical antibiotic cream for some patients.

During your recovery, please avoid swimming pools, saunas, and other situations that may cause heavy sweating. Do not use makeup brushes for at least 24 hours after treatment, and wash your hands before touching your face.

Skincare Products to Avoid

Due to your skin’s sensitivity, we recommend avoiding exfoliants, retinol, vitamin C, or anything scented for the first couple of days. You may gradually reintroduce products after two days, but run any cleansers, toners, and scrubs by Dr. Greenberg and his team at Winter Park Plastic Surgery to avoid worsening any redness or swelling.

Recommended Skincare Products

We recommend using gentle products with natural ingredients that your body is familiar with. It is generally safe to apply coconut oil and hyaluronic acid to help with collagen and moisture. For the best products for your skin, please discuss them with our team during your consultation and treatment.

Applying Makeup

We do not recommend wearing makeup in the first 48 hours after your microneedling treatment. The makeup blocks the pores of your newly exposed skin and can cause breakouts. Instead, apply gentle, unscented products for relief, and the redness will fade in a couple of days.

How Long Does Microneedling Last?

Microneedling can last 3-6 months after your final treatment; however, some patients may see their ideal results for up to a year. Most patients need maintenance treatments to maintain their collagen production levels and enjoy smoother, firmer skin. Your results may last longer with a good skincare routine.
