Are you plowing through anti-aging serums and creams, only to see little – if any – results when you look in the bathroom mirror?
If that’s the case, it’s time to introduce yourself to the world of anti-wrinkle injectables, specifically Botox and dermal fillers. Both treatments seek to reduce the look of facial wrinkles and help you turn back that clock. Both can be administered in just minutes, with absolutely no downtime.
So when it comes down to it, what is the difference between Botox and dermal fillers?
As it turns out, there are five of them. Let’s take a look now!
The 5 Main Differences Between Botox and Dermal Fillers
1. They contain different formulas.
Botox contains botulinum toxin, a neuroprotein that works to dampen nerve signals between the brain and muscles at the treatment site. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, use hyaluronic acid to reduce signs of wrinkles and facial folds.
2. They achieve results in different ways.
Botox uses a safe neuroprotein to temporarily stop micromovements at the treatment site. Dermal fillers use their hyaluronic acid formulas to act as scaffolding underneath the dermal tissue, seeking to lift and smooth away signs of deep facial folds and wrinkles.
3. They can treat different aging symptoms.
Botox is FDA-approved for the treatment of forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes. Dermal fillers are FDA-approved to treat facial folds around the nose and mouth, minimize cheek wrinkles, and even augment thinning lips.
4. The duration of results are very different.
Botox results tend to last three to four months, while dermal fillers can last anywhere from six to 24 months, depending on the specific formula being used.
5. They have different alternative treatments.
Clinical trials have shown that Botox can be used to reduce migraines and excessive underarm sweating, while dermal fillers can be used to treat aging symptoms on hands.
