If you’re interested in undergoing breast augmentation surgery, it’s safe to say you’ve done a lot of thinking about what the procedure will involve. You know you’ll sign up for a consultation, where you’ll meet with your plastic surgeon and discuss your concerns. If you feel comfortable, you’ll have the surgery done, and you’ll wake up with a brand-new chest.
But do you know what to expect from your breast augmentation recovery?
Your Breast Augmentation Recovery
As it turns out, breast augmentation recovery may take up a lot less time than you think. Most patients only need to take a week off from work; some may need to take two, especially if they have more manual jobs. This first week is when you’ll likely experience the most post-procedure discomfort, as your body is doing lots of healing. You will need to attend a follow-up appointment with your plastic surgeon to discuss breast implant massage and to have your sutures removed.
During the next couple of weeks, you’ll slowly start to feel back to normal. You’ll need to continue wearing your post-surgical compression bra, as this can help minimize swelling and bruising. You may be given the green light to start exercising again about four to six weeks after your surgery.
How to Have a Successful Recovery
Want to ensure your breast augmentation recovery is successful? In addition to following your plastic surgeon’s advice, we recommend:
- Investing in a recliner chair, as you won’t be able to sleep on your back, sides, or stomach during the first weeks after your surgery.
- Arrange for childcare, as you’ll be prohibited from lifting anything heavy during the first three weeks of post-op recovery.
- Prep as many meals ahead of time as you can, as you don’t want to do much moving around your first few days after surgery.
- Invest in plenty of entertainment, as you’ll have lots of time to catch up on your favorite TV series and books!
