There are a number of breast implant options offered by Orlando cosmetic surgeon Dr. Scott Greenberg, including which shape will ideally suit your frame. However, a new study published in the January issue of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, the online medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, has found that even plastic surgeons themselves cannot always tell the difference in results once implants have been placed.

To conduct this study, a panel of plastic surgeons and plastic surgery nurses were shown two different sets of before and after photos of breast augmentation patients, each containing 15 women with an average implant size of 300 cc. According to the study, neither group of cosmetic surgery professionals could consistently identify if implants were rounded or tear-drop shaped, particularly in women with similar physical characteristics.

While this study may suggest that implant shape is irrelevant in some cases, it may also point to the skill of the plastic surgeons who patients were included in the before and after photos. A qualified and board-certified plastic surgeon should be able to assess natural contours, determine the most appropriate implant size, and base all breast augmentation options on the specific needs of the patient. These steps, in turn, should produce pleasing and natural-looking results that serve to enhance the entire upper body.
