About Blue Light Therapy

Blue light therapy is a type of light therapy that is typically used to reduce acne. Particularly effective on mild to moderate acne breakouts, the wavelength of blue light kills the bacteria within the skin that causes it. Commonly combined with other cosmetic treatments (such as medical skincare procedures) for optimal results, it is based on each individual’s unique requirements.

Not only does it have an antimicrobial effect, however. This type of treatment gently conditions your skin and provides anti-inflammatory benefits that reduce any skin redness.

Because of the numerous benefits that come with blue light therapy, we’re proud to offer an acne treatment here at Winter Park Plastic Surgery.

*Individual Results May Vary

Each blue light therapy session will last between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on the area being treated. During the session, a special device will be used in circular motions across your face or body that applies gentle pulses. Carefully heating the skin, it targets harmful bacteria within the pores.

Once several repetitions of the process have been carried out, the treatment is complete. Dr Scott Greenberg will then advise you on your aftercare routine, which could include wearing sunscreen as your skin will be sensitive and needs to avoid harmful UV rays. Immediately following the laser treatment, the area may be swollen, red, and tender. This is a normal skin reaction, and you will start to see it fade within days.

Several treatments of blue light therapy may be required, up to three times a week – although it does vary on a person-by-person basis. Once the regular treatments conclude, occasional follow-up treatments may be required every few months. There is no downtime associated with this treatment, making it a quick and effective solution to acne breakouts.

How Does Blue Light Reduce Acne?

As light therapy kills the bacteria on the skin, it helps to reduce acne and prevent it from returning in the long term. After regular treatments, most clients will see a significant reduction in the number of acne breakouts that they experience.

Laser acne treatment has been used as an alternative way of aiding the skin condition for many years now. And due to the research that backs up its effectiveness, along with its popularity internationally, it’s easy to see why it’s rapidly becoming one of the first acne treatments that people turn to.
