Fine lines and wrinkles are a natural part of aging, but injectable treatments like Dysport® and Botox® offer a way to smooth them out with minimal downtime. Both are neuromodulators that relax facial muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, but they have key differences that may make one a better choice for your aesthetic goals.

What are Dysport® and Botox®?

Dysport® and Botox® are both botulinum toxin-based injectables that temporarily relax targeted facial muscles. By limiting muscle movement, they help smooth dynamic wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines between the brows.

Botox®: The most well-known neuromodulator, Botox® has been used for cosmetic and medical treatments for decades. It provides precise, controlled results and is FDA-approved for multiple uses.

Dysport®: While similar to Botox®, Dysport® has a slightly different formulation that allows it to spread more quickly, making it ideal for treating larger areas, like the forehead.

Dysport® vs Botox®: Which Is Best?

The best option for you depends on your individual needs and treatment goals. Some key differences between Dysport® and Botox® include:

Onset Time: Dysport® often takes effect slightly faster than Botox®, with visible results appearing in 2-3 days compared to Botox®’s typical 3-5 days.

Diffusion: Dysport® spreads more easily, making it effective for treating larger areas. Botox®, on the other hand, stays more localized, offering precise control over smaller areas.

Duration: Both treatments last about 3-4 months, but results can vary based on individual metabolism and muscle activity.

Dosage: Dysport® is measured differently than Botox®, requiring a higher number of units to achieve the same effect. However, this does not mean Dysport® is less effective—it is simply formulated differently.

Your provider at Winter Park Plastic Surgery & Laser Center will assess your needs and recommend the most suitable option for you.

Is There Any Downtime After Dysport® or Botox®?

One of the biggest advantages of Dysport® and Botox® is that they require little to no downtime. Most people return to their daily activities immediately after treatment. However, some mild side effects, such as slight redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, may occur but typically resolve within a few hours to days. To optimize results, patients should avoid strenuous exercise, rubbing the treated area, or lying down for several hours after the procedure.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dysport® or Botox®?

You may be a good candidate for Dysport® or Botox® if you:

  • Have mild to moderate dynamic wrinkles
  • Want a non-surgical solution to smooth fine lines
  • Are in generally good health with realistic expectations
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding

During a consultation, your provider will evaluate your concerns and help determine whether Dysport® or Botox® is the best fit for you.
