Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Hurt

Laser skin resurfacing is a safe and effective way to address facial wrinkles and imperfections including acne scars, pigment irregularities, and uneven skin tone. Incredibly effective, this nonsurgical procedure can produce remarkable results without the need for incisions or sutures, but it is somewhat more invasive than certain other skin care options and will require a slight recovery period.

During the laser skin resurfacing procedure, Orlando cosmetic surgeon Dr. Scott Greenberg uses laser energy to ablate the outer layer of skin while shrinking collagen fibers underneath. In the days and weeks following the procedure, new, smoother and blemish-free skin will replace the outer layer, producing a look that is more youthful and attractive.

Laser skin treatments are performed under local anesthesia in our Florida cosmetic surgery office, helping protect against any discomfort during the procedure. Dr. Greenberg can discuss anesthesia options with you in more detail during your laser skin resurfacing consultation to help ensure the most effective method is utilized.

During the recovery period, some redness, tenderness, and swelling can be expected. Moderate discomfort, similar to that of a sunburn, is not uncommon. This discomfort can easily be address with the use of ointments, ice packs, and, when needed, over the counter pain medications.

Redness may last for several weeks, but any discomfort should fully subside within one to two. Once redness diminishes, laser skin resurfacing results can last for many years, making it one of the longest lasting nonsurgical facial rejuvenation options. During your initial consultation, Dr. Greenberg will assess your areas of concern, address any specific questions you may have, and help you decide if laser skin resurfacing is the best choice for your needs.
