Perlane is, like Restylane, an hyaluronic acid-based injectable gel. The molecule size is larger than Restylane and it is slightly thicker as well. As such, it is designed to smooth deeper wrinkles than either Restylane or Juvéderm XC Ultra, and may be a better alternative in older patients with deeper creasing of the skin and less supporting collagen. It is recommended for treating nasolabial folds and other deeper creases.
The basic material of Perlane, hyaluronic acid, is found naturally in your skin as a skin filler and support substance, but diminishes with age, leaving the skin susceptible to wrinkles.
Because it is a natural compound, Perlane is gradually absorbed by the body, but as it is absorbed, the remaining material binds water molecules, allowing Perlane to maintain its volume for about 4-6 months. You can have periodic touch-ups, revisions, and re-treatments at any time to customize your results.
Perlane is not animal-based, so you will not need an allergy test prior to treatment.
As with other injectable fillers, Perlane injections take about 15 minutes.
- Numbing cream is applied
- Perlane is injected into the skin to be treated
- Dr. Greenberg may gently massage the treated area
- It may take up to one week for you to see full results
Nasolabial Fold treatment with Perlane
During the recovery time, you may experience minor swelling, pain, and redness. Because it is injected more deeply, the swelling may be slightly more pronounced than for other hyaluronic acid fillers. This should subside within a day or so after your treatment. Try to avoid strenuous activity, sun exposure, and excessive heat for at least 24 hours after treatment.
