In our fast-paced, active society, and especially in our climate of prolonged sun-exposure, many patients are looking for a way to rejuvenate sun-damaged skin. A variety of skin care methods are available including skin care programs, chemical peels and laser skin resurfacing. Microdermabrasion is a skin care procedure used extensively in Europe and FDA approved for the treatment of conditions relating to sun-damaged and aging skin, such as uneven surface texture, fine lines, hyper-pigmentation (dark sun spots) and mild acne scarring. We are proud to offer our patients Parisian Peel, the gold standard in medical microdermabrasion.
The advantage of microdermabrasion over traditional "resurfacing" methods (chemical peels and laser resurfacing) is that there is minimal discomfort, minimal "downtime" after the procedure, and it is suitable for most patients. It should not be thought of as a substitute for these deeper procedures. The microdermabrasion skin care procedure involves application and removal by suction of aluminum oxide crystals, which gently abrade the skin. This suction action also provides a "lymphatic drainage massage" the sum of which allows for exfoliating and stimulating blood flow to the skin. The process of removal of the superficial skin allows the skin to renew itself more readily thereby providing a healthier, rejuvenated appearance. For the best results, microdermabrasion is offered as a series of treatments 1-2 weeks apart to significantly enhance the effectiveness of our skin care system and not as a stand-alone procedure.
