Since the eyes are the focal point of the face, they contribute substantially to our overall facial appearance. One of the first signs of early aging is bagginess or puffiness around the eyes with wrinkling of the eyelid skin. These features can give the face a perpetually tired expression. A normally attractive face with the signs of early aging affects self-image and, subsequently, can have a marked effect on general manner, attitude and sense of well-being. Eyelid surgery is designed to improve this condition and to restore the youthful, alert appearance of the eyes.
Eyelid Surgery Consultation
At the initial eyelid surgery consultation, your goals and expectations about the eyelid surgery will be discussed in detail. An individual decision as to the most appropriate technique(s) to be used will be selected and the advantages of each technique will be discussed. Other facial rejuvenation procedures, including a brow lift and skin resurfacing technique, may be recommended as an alternative or supplement, if appropriate. Informational material and discussion will allow you to have a clear understanding of the procedure.
Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Eyelid surgery is usually performed in our accredited in-office surgery facility on an outpatient basis. Local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia may be used depending upon the individual. The eyelid surgery procedure consists of making an inconspicuous incision on the upper eyelids and lower eyelids (transcutaneous approach) or possibly in the inner lining of the lower eyelids (transconjunctival approach) which may be combined with a skin tightening procedure such as a chemical peel or laser resurfacing. The excess skin and fat are removed and the wounds are closed.
"This office gave me the personal attention that I needed and that everyone should get. They are all very professional and caring. I felt comfortable discussing my surgery options. I was nervous since I had never had plastic surgery before but I felt very comfortable with you. Thank you. "
"My sister recommended your office to me. When I saw the results of her surgery and then came to your office, I had no hesitation!! Thank you for everything and I am glad I had the opportunity to be one of your patients. "
After Your Eyelid Surgery
An overnight stay may be recommended if additional procedures are performed. You will remain in the recovery area for approximately 1 - 2 hours after eyelid surgery. Postoperative care and common postoperative findings will be discussed with your family prior to your discharge. Normal daily activities including work can usually be resumed 9-10 days after eyelid surgery. We will discuss our recommendations regarding restarting your skin care program with you.
